THE TRIP

Ryan and Jeff are two private detectives who find themselves holding a big trouble: the case of a curse.
The two directors take their cue from the typical detective story of the American comics and they contaminate it with a directorial style that mixes the very first stylistic elements of the french Nouvelle Vague with the New York underground movement of the early 80s, playing at different types of filming (and filming of filming) as he did Andy Warhol and make three-dimensional stop-motion animations. Despite the raw and underground style of their production and unreported references, Ryan and Jeff return for the second time after The Suitcase (already under Carboluce), as authors and performers of a film that summarizes the concept of self-made cinematography, like Gondry could say. And they do it with their comic and sentimental personality.

Prendono spunto dall’icona della detective story fumettistica americana e la contaminano con uno stile registico che mischia i primissimi stilemi della Nouvelle Vague francese con il movimento underground newyorkese dei primi anni ’80, giocano a diversi livelli di riprese (e ripresa della ripresa) come faceva Andy Warhol e realizzano animazioni in stop-motion tridimensionali. Nonostante lo stile grezzo e underground della loro produzione e i riferimenti non dichiarati, Ryan e Jeff tornano per la seconda volta dopo The Suitcase (già film Carboluce), come autori e interpreti di un film che sintetizza il concetto di cinematografia self-made, come direbbe Gondry. E lo fanno con il loro carattere comico e sentimentale.
